HUNTINGTON BEACH, CA (Associated Press) – Police officers shot and killed an armed man
in the sand in front of dozens of terrified witnesses, many of whom gathered in Huntington
Beach for the US Open surfing championships. City police spokeswoman Jennifer Curry
said in a statement that officers responded to reports that a man with a gun called him on
Saturday afternoon and when he refused to comply with multiple orders they opened fire.
The man was taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Not recognized.
